About Knee Pain
Knee injuries are common in athletes and often result in significant time lost as the athlete recovers.
They come in a variety of types and severity and affect people of all ages and activity levels.
Many result in knee arthritis over time and eventually may require knee replacement, which is the most common type of total joint replacement performed.
Our Services
Ligaments & Meniscus
The Meniscus (plural “menisci”) is a rubbery cartilage disc that provides cushion, support and stability to the knee. Ligaments are structures that hold the four bones of the knee together (patella, femur, tibia, and fibula) and allow it to function properly. Common injuries include meniscus tears (e.g. bucket handle tears), ligament sprains, knee dislocations, and complete tears of the ACL, PCL, LCL, PLC, MCL, and MPFL.

Tendons
The patellar tendon and quadriceps tendon connect the quadriceps muscles to the patella (knee cap) and tibia so that the knee can be straightened and allow us to walk. These tendons can suffer partial tears (e.g. tendinopathy) or complete traumatic rupture.

Cartilage
The articular cartilage is a specialized structure found in all joints that allows the bones to glide smoothly on one another and move without pain. Unfortunately, cartilage is frequently injured and has a poor ability to heal itself. Osteochondritis dissecans (aka OCD) is a specific type of cartilage injury to children and adolescents.
