It was during this time period that Dr. Van den Berghe began to develop interests in shoulder surgery and sports medicine.
After completing his orthopedic residency Dr. Van den Berghe completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at San Diego Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy in 2004.
While completing his fellowship he received specialized training to care for athletes and patients with complex shoulder injuries. During this year he also served as one of the team physicians for the San Diego Padres.
Following completion of his fellowship program Dr. Van den Berghe and his family moved back to the Kansas City area and he joined Apex Orthopedics. Dr. Van den Berghe still enjoys taking care of patients and athletes of all ages, from the very young to the young at heart. He cares for a variety of injuries including rotator cuff tears, broken bones (fractures), dislocations, torn ligaments and torn tendons.
Outside of Work
Dr. Van den Berghe enjoys teaching and has served as an instructor in shoulder arthroscopy techniques, at courses training other orthopedic surgeons.
In his free time, Dr. Van den Berghe enjoys spending time with his kids and being outdoors, whether boating at Table Rock Lake, teaching his kids to work on cars, attending sporting events or just out for a bicycle ride in the evenings. He also enjoys travelling, working out at the gym and surfing.
